Harriet A. Clair (McNeil) Pepple (1834-1873)

Harriet A. Clair Pepple, née McNeil, was born on February 18, 1834. She was the youngest daughter of Samuel McNeil and Nancy Cokely and sister to Lucinda 'Dorcas' (McNeil) Chapin. She was married to Jared T. Pepple on September 26, 1850. They had four daughters, but only the two oldest survived to adulthood: Ella, Kate, Fanny, and Emma. They lived in Toledo, Ohio.

The Pepples boarded their relative Angie McNeil for some time while she was teaching, and Harriet would often update Dorcas about Angie in her letters along with the usual updates concerning health, children, and marriages. Harriet's letters were usually quite fond in tone; it is clear that Harriet and her sister Dorcas were very close and held a special fondness for each other.

Harriet unfortunately suffered from a brain hemmorrhage in May of 1873 and passed away on May 28th of that year at the age of 39.
