Dennis Chapin Jr. (1850-1924)

Dennis Chapin Jr., born in 1850, was the fourth son of Dennis Sr. and Dorcas Chapin. He moved West from Massachusetts to Ohio and married Margaret Crowell sometime before 1878. They had four children together--Charles, John, Arthur, and Lucinda--of which three survived into adulthood.

The family spent roughly twenty-two years in Ohio before moving to Urbana. Some of the children chose to stay in Illinois while others, including Dennis and Margaret, eventually migrated west to Kansas.

Margaret passed away from an illness in 1885. Dennis Jr. did not marry again until 1899, when he married Mary E. Melton (Chapman), a widow with four children of her own. Mary and Dennis had a boy named Edwin in 1903 and lived in Harper County, Kansas for the remainder of their lives.

Dennis, again a windower, passed away in 1924 at the age of 73.
