Dear dear Mother
Received your letter more than a week ago Was so glad to hear from you. I had received a letter from [illegible] informing me that Dear Father had passed away from this sorrowful world to a happy home beyond the grave O Mother I know that he is far better off there than here if I could only have seen him it would not have been so hard to bear
It is a great comfort to know that he was ready & willing to go How thankfull we ought to be that the Lord gave him time to prepare for the great change
Dear Mother I fear that I have been selfish in my sorrow that great as I feel my loss, your loss is much greater. but if you are a good Christian you will find com fort in thought that you will surely meet him beyond the grave. You have your children left who I hope will always make their Mother the first object of their care.
You will keep what property you have in your own hands do not on any account put it into the hands of any one else
Dennis will now be your main dependence I hope he will feel the responsibility and feel that he can no longer be a boy but must be a man and provide for his Mother, and younger brother & sister, a good living
Try and have Harris & Maggie get a good education so that they can be teachers How I wish that I could be near you so that I could help you But I know that you have many kind friends there you will do all they can for you
I have not much hope of comeing home next winter Thos. and his brother talk some of buying a farm together if they should we could leave much better for then Henry could manage T.s part of the farm without any extra expense
But I do not have any Idea that we will come this year for when I go I want to go as early as the first of September and I cannot this year. Thos. sister Mary is here now came last Friday night she has her boy with her 7 years old. Matilda teaches the school in our district Frank goes to school to her
[Tina?] [illegible] is at home is teaching school in the district where her Father lives has quite a large school I have not seen her yet She wrote to me as soon as she found out where we lived But Thos. has been so busy that we have not been to see her yet think we will go this week some time. They live about 6 miles from here we can see their house from here We live on one high hill and they on another. I have not had any letter from Marcia for a long time I hope she will write soon
Thos. sends love to you. poor boy I hope for his sake I shall feel more cheerfull. he feels sad when I do. I will close for this time Do write as often as you can. I send much love to all
from your daughter
