Very little about George Chapin exists in this collection. He is another seventh generation Chapin who is a cousin to Lucinda and Dennis’s children. The son of Dennis's older brother Neri Chapin and his wife Abigail Warner, George was born on November 26, 1837. He married Sophia A.C. Page on October 16, 1861.

His letters speak nothing about his childhood or the status of his family. The death of George’s uncle, Seth, either revealed, or amplified a rift within the family. George suspected Seth’s estate was going to be mismanaged for the personal gain of others. He reached out to other members of his family for the purpose of raising enough funds to hire a lawyer to ensure everyone got what was owed to them.

George also reveals information regarding Dennis Chapin’s ties to the estate which appear to be connected to Dennis’ westward ambitions, perhaps signaling that the familial rift existed beforehand and that Seth’s death was merely the spark that blew it wide open.

George passed away in 1907.
