Champaign County Homesteading Contract - April 1, 1857
Know all men by these presents that Robert Johnson of Champaign County State of Ill. Am held and firmly bound by these presents unto Dennis Chapin of Champaign County Ill. In the sum of Four hundred and fifty Dollars for the payment of which I bind my self my heirs Executors and Administrators by these presents. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal This first day of April 1857.
The condition of the above Obligation is such that wearas I Robert Johnson have this day sold unto Dennis Chapin the following described real Estate Situate Lying and being in the county of Champaign State of Ill. [illegible] Lot no one of Robt Johnson subdivision of the N.E. 1/4 N.E. 1/4 S. 9. y. 18. R. 10 East [illegible] five acres More or less. In consideration of the sum of One Dollar in hand paid by the said Dennis Chapin for the remaining Two hundred & Twenty five Dollars he has Executed his certain promisory Note of even date with this instrument six Months after date having ten per cent Interest from date untill paid Now if upon full payment of the above described [No?] I Robert Johnson will execute a cause to be executed a good and sufficient warrant Deed to the real estate above described. Then this Obligation he [illegible] other wise to be and remain in full force and [illegible] in Law
