Hannah Daggett, née Chapin, is one of Dorcas Chapin's children and was born in Ohio in 1845 before the family's move to Illinois. She was a teacher, and her teaching certificate can be found in this collection.

In 1866, Hannah married a man by the name of Thomas Daggett (born in 1844). Together they moved to Foxcroft, Maine, which in the present day is known as Dover-Foxcroft. They had four children: Herbert, Lizzie, Sumner, and Grace.

Hannah's single letter in the collection regales much of the local news for Hannah’s mother, and also contains a bit of bragging about one of her children. The child’s name is unknown, but Hannah appears quite proud of her daughter and eager to hear from the rest of her siblings, the words lending themselves to a bubbly and excitable spirit.

Thomas is credited as writing two letters in the collection, and one of them was a continuation of a letter that Hannah started but never finished. His letters, both addressed to Dorcas, hint that Hannah was the one that usually corresponded with her, and that she did so much more than the single letter from her in this collection indicates. In a letter from 1874, Thomas reveals the joyous birth of their son Sumner, but as he had not been named yet, implored Dorcas to provide suggestions.

Thomas died in 1917 at the age of 72; Hannah died on September 23, 1922 at the age of 76, three days before her 77th birthday.
