George and Hannah McKinley
William Brown McKinley's parents. Hannah and George McKinley arrived in Champaign County from Petersburg, Illinois in 1857. They came to Middletown (now Mahomet), where George assumed the ministerial duties at the Presbyterian Church. A year later, George became pastor at the Firsts Presbyterian Church at State and Hill Streets, in West Urbana (now Champaign). The family lived in the community for the rest of their lives. Today, some of the most notable institutions in Champaign and Urbana are named for George and Hannah, thanks to their son William's generous philanthropy. These gifts to Champaign County include:
Hannah McKinley Hall at the YMCA on Wright Street, McKinley University Hospital (McKinley Health Center), McKinley Athletic Fields (Champaign and Urbana Highschool), McKinley Memorial Presbyterian Church and Foundation.
