"Those of you who can say that you were taught by Louise Woodroofe or were her colleagues are the true work of her creative abilities."

Louise Woodroofe was appointed a Full Professor of Art in 1948. This made her one of the first tenured female professors at the University of Illinois. She was known for her devotion to her students, and in 1978 was recognized by the Illini Union as the “Most Supportive University Faculty/Staff Person”.

The Assembly Hall

One of Louise's many architecture students was Max Abramovitz, the well-known designer of the Assembly Hall. Rumor has that Abramovitz asked his former teacher for her opinions on his designs. Her suggestions were that he include a large entryway below the building for circus performers and animals, and that he be sure to include proper hooks in the floors and ceiling for trapeze rigging.
